About Us

About Us

We are a global network of academics dedicated to providing support and opportunities, collaborating, and empowering young Muslims in Academia.

Our Goals

Our Goals

As we strive to empower and support the growth of young Muslims in academia, we have realized that we need to increase Muslim representation, in all fields of academia, including STEM, humanities, etc.

As we aim to surpass the high standards we’ve set for MIA, we need to begin by fostering a strong community of these Muslim academics. Furthermore, to grow and expand as a single body, we need to generate and make available access to a vast array of diverse opportunities within the community.

Our current vision can be allocated to two main branches, with the promise, of course, to expand higher and wider to encompass all areas of the world.

We aim to empower young Muslims in academia, with a focus on STEM fields. By fostering strong communities and providing access to diverse opportunities, MIA continues to grow globally—building connections and expanding representation worldwide.

Building Community

We’re actively building, developing, and expanding a vibrant network where Muslim academics and aspiring students can collaborate, share knowledge, and support each other’s growth. Our community fosters mutual aid and intellectual exchange, empowering both current and future academics to excel and enhance Muslim representation in academia.

"Growing up in Scarborough, I saw the underrepresentation of Muslim scholars in academia. This inspired me to co-found Muslims in Academia to bridge the gap by offering mentorship, resources, and community support. Through events and workshops, we highlight achievements, inspire the next generation, and work toward stronger Muslim representation in higher education."

"Growing up in Scarborough, one of the most diverse places in the world. I observed a significant underrepresentation of Muslim Scholars in academia. This inspired me to co-found "Muslims in Academia" to address this gap. The GTA has a vibrant Muslim population with immense academic potential, yet Muslim representation in higher education remains low. Our initiative aims to bridge this gap by providing mentorship, resources, and support to aspiring Muslim scholars. Through community engagement, networking events, and academic workshops, "Muslims in Academia" highlights the achievements of Muslim academics and inspires the next generation. Our goal is to foster an environment where Muslim students feel encouraged and equipped to pursue their academic dreams, contributing to a more inclusive and representative academic community in the GTA and beyond."
